Carrie Schreiner’s plans to move away from single-seaters

Sauber Academy member Carrie Schreiner currently competes in F1 Academy for Campos Racing. However, the German driver isn’t planning her future around single-seaters.

At 25 years old, Schreiner just made the age cutoff to participate in her second season of F1 Academy. Drivers are limited to two seasons in the series, meaning Schreiner will leave her Campos seat after this year. Previous F1 Academy graduates Marta García and Léna Bühler moved up to the Formula Regional European Championship. However, in a press conference ahead of the Miami weekend, Schreiner said she doesn’t see that as an option.

“[FRECA] is a good step after F1 Academy. In my case, I don’t think it’s the right choice to go further ahead in single-seaters. I want to give my best in the F1 Academy and to show what I can do, but for me it makes more sense to move to LMPs or GTs again, so let’s see what doors will open.”

Schreiner’s F1 Academy campaigns are her first foray into single-seaters since she competed in ADAC Formula 4 and British F4 in 2016. Last year, she told Feeder Series, “I was not sure if I should do it because normally it was not my plan to go back to single-seaters because I did not see a reason for it. But when I thought about it, to be a part of the first own championship from F1 for women, I had to do it.”

In the meantime, she raced primarily in GTs, including winning the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Middle East Pro-Am class in 2018.

Schreiner also has plenty of experience driving the Nürburgring. She’s competed in the Nürburgring 24 Hours with WS Racing five times, achieving a class victory in 2021. This year, the race lasted under eight hours and Schreiner finished third with the team in the SP 8T class and 47th overall. She is also competing in the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie for the fourth time in her career alongside her F1 Academy campaign this year.

WS Racing runs Girls Only, which is made up of only women in the cockpit and the garage. Schreiner’s dual-campaign illustrates the strides being made toward gender equality across disciplines of motorsport.
