F4 UAE opening weekend at Abu Dhabi changed to exhibition race due to cargo delays

The organisers of F4 UAE announced today that the upcoming support race for the F1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will be changed from a Trophy Round to a revamped exhibition race after cargo delays see only 10 cars ready to race.

The first event in the 2021/22 calendar was supposed to be a showcase race for the brand new “second generation” T-421 Tatuus race car featuring the halo system, but due to shipping delays the 20-plus car grid has been cut in half.

Championship promoter Craig Thompson said to F1 Feeder Series: “It’s extremely unfortunate that some of our teams have been affected in this way. Even for teams which are here we still have needed to source extra tools and parts because theirs are still in the shipping containers en route. But we can’t be prouder of how so many people here are supporting us and working together to make this event happen in whatever form we can.

“Showcasing the new Gen2 Tatuus F4 is extremely important for the formula itself, for Tatuus and the FIA, and the wider motorsport community. Even if that means we have to do things a little differently than planned, we can’t wait for people to see it at full speed.”

It is expected that all teams will be in time for testing, with some driver line-ups expected to be made official very soon.

The official F4 UAE season is expected to officially get under way on January 12th, with a six week season period that ends on February 19th at the Yas Marina Circuit.
