Monlau exits Eurocup-3 until introduction of Formula Regional Gen2 chassis

Monlau Motorsport has confirmed it will not enter Eurocup-3 this season and will instead join when the second-generation Formula Regional chassis is introduced.

The Spanish team was confirmed to be joining the championship on 11 March and was present at Spa-Francorchamps one week later for pre-season testing. However, they did not run in any of the sessions, as the team “had a problem with the driver that had signed for the season,” team manager David Simón told Feeder Series.

In a statement issued to Feeder Series, Simón said: “Without a doubt [entering Eurocup-3] is our future objective, but the necessary circumstances did not align for our entry this year.”

“It’s a great championship, very well organized and managed, and we want to enter to stay and give continuity to our driver development project that goes from karting in Mini to TCR, passing through Formula 4.”

Monlau plans to enter when the Formula Regional Gen2 chassis, scheduled for introduction in 2026, is implemented as the official Eurocup-3 car.

The series currently uses a modified version of the Tatuus T-318, which includes an aerodynamics package that is visually similar to the current Formula 1 and F2 regulations. Tatuus told Feeder Series in March of last year that the Eurocup-3 car was an “anticipation” of the Gen2 car.

In the meantime, Monlau will continue its participation in Spanish F4, where it fields three cars in a technical partnership with Van Amersfoort Racing.

Two additional teams besides Monlau have declared interest in joining Eurocup-3 once the Gen2 chassis is introduced. Series organisers did not reveal which, but confirmed that both teams compete in F2 and F3.
