F4 US: 2025 season guide

With a calendar delay and a significant increase in costs, Formula 4 United States had only nine drivers taking part in the championship in 2024, down from more than 20 per round in previous years. Eight drivers are confirmed to be racing in the opening round of the series this year. Here’s what you need to know about the 2025 season of F4 US.

By Laura Anequini

Last year, Daniel Quimby took the championship title in a battle that was only decided in the last round. The Australian ended the year with 227.5 points, only 4.5 points more than second-placed Nicolas Stati’s total. Quimby won a scholarship to step up to FRegional Americas and will race with Atlantic Racing Team in the series.

This year, the champion will once again win a scholarship to race in FR Americas in 2026. Included in that scholarship prize are a Ligier JS F3 chassis, a Mountune engine, Hankook tyres and paid-for race entry fees. They will also get to be a guest of the Haas F1 Team at one of the American races.

The calendar

Right now, the calendar contains two more rounds than 2024’s and will support FR Americas at all events. The series will once again go international to Canada and will return to Virginia International Raceway and Barber Motorsports Park. Unlike in previous years, the Circuit of the Americas is not a part of the schedule anymore.

  • Round 1: NOLA Motorsports Park (27–30 March)
  • Round 2: Road America (15–18 May)
  • Round 3: Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course (19–22 June)
  • Round 4: New Jersey Motorsports Park (31 July–3 August)
  • Round 5: Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (28–31 August)
  • Round 6: Virginia International Raceway (18–21 September)
  • Round 7: Barber Motorsports Park (17–19 October)

The format

The format of the weekend stays the same this year. Two 25-minute test sessions happen on Thursdays as well as two 25-minute practice sessions on Fridays. Depending on the round schedule, qualifying will happen either Friday or Saturday. Each weekend will have two or three races starting on Saturday. At the Circuit of The Americas round last year, F4 US and the Ligier JS F4 Series for first-generation cars held their sessions at the same time, though the starting positions for races were divided based on the championship in which each driver was racing.

Grid positions for race one are set by qualifying results, while the starting order for the following races is determined by the finishing positions of the previous one. Each race can last up to 30 minutes, and the points system follows that of F1.

Where to watch

Races that are streamed are available on the SpeedTour YouTube channel. For the races that aren’t streamed, it’s possible to follow the results on the championship’s social media accounts or via live timing in Race Monitor.

Teams and drivers

Crosslink Motorsports

Racing under the now-dissolved partnership of Crosslink Kiwi Motorsports, the team finished first in the teams’ standings last year with 422 points. As of now, Crosslink Motorsports will field two drivers for this year’s season.

Kekai Hauanio (#29) is making the step up with the team after having raced with them in the Ligier JS F4 Series last year. The 18-year-old Floridian was the runner-up in the series in 2024, taking four wins and five further podiums. This is not his first time racing in the championship, however, as he raced in the series in 2023 when it still used the first-generation F4 car. Racing with New’T Racing but with technical support from Jay Howard Driver Development, he finished eighth in the standings with 73 points and two podiums, both taken at VIR.

Also stepping up with the team from Ligier JS F4 is American driver Demitri Nolan (#5), who finished 10th in the standings. He did not take any podiums last year, ending up with a best race finish of fourth and 51 points.

Cooper Shipman (#14) is joining the team after having raced in Formula Race Promotions’ F1600 series last year. The 17-year-old from Austin, Texas, finished fifth in the standings, taking 478 points.

The team will also field Clemente Huerta (#17), making his single-seater debut. The 16-year-old is Chile’s 2024 national karting champion in the Rotax Senior Max category. Previously this year, he participated in pre-season Formula FARA testing in the first-generation F4 car.

MLT Motorsports

Last year, MLT Motorsports fielded Lincoln Day for the full season and Alex Popow (#55) for the final round of the championship. They finished fourth in the teams’ standings with 154 points. The team, who are based near Road Atlanta, are known for their participation  in the IMSA SportsCar Championship’s LMP3 category.

Popow, the 2023 champion of the Florida-based championship Formula Inter, impressed by taking two wins from three races in his first time racing in the series. He finished fourth in race three. Popow – whose father, Alex Popow Karaha, is a multi-time winner in the Prototype Challenge class of the IMSA SportsCar Championship – was also one of the recipients of Parella Motorsports Holdings’ Powering Diversity Scholarship. The 19-year-old Venezuelan’s results show that he will be one to follow this year.

Scuderia Buell

Scuderia Buell and their 2024 driver, Argentina’s Pablo Benites Jr, participated in only the first three of five rounds last year. Still, they finished fifth in the teams’ standings, while Benites was sixth in the standings.

This year, the team will line up karting graduate Conor Grant (#54), another winner of the PMH Powering Diversity Scholarship. Grant, 17, took part in the last round of Ligier JS F4 last year with Champagne Racing, securing a best race finish of sixth. The Irishman also raced in the IAME Euro Series and the IAME Benelux Championship in the X30 Senior class in 2024.

LC Racing Academy

A new addition to the championship is LC Racing Academy, run by Florida-based karting team owner Leo Colman. The team will be fielding Caleb Campbell (#68) this season.

The 16-year-old from Ontario raced in the Skip Barber Formula Race Series in 2024. Though this season will be his first time racing in F4 US, Campbell already has the experience of racing at NOLA, Road America and VIR en route to finishing sixth in the standings last year with 313 points. Campbell will be mentored and coached by 2023 F4 US champion and reigning FR Americas champion Patrick Woods-Toth.
