In the second year of its revival, AU4 returns with a new name, a new promoter, and an updated format. Now led by AGI Sport, who take over from former promoters Top Speed, the series introduces a new multi-class structure to offer a more varied and competitive field.

While no longer FIA certified because of the changes in class structure and lower minimum age of 14, the championship continues to position itself as a valuable proving ground for junior drivers in Australia.

AGI Sport bring extensive experience to the role, as they currently run the ARDC Race Academy as well as Formula 4 programs across Asia, the UAE, the Middle East, and North America. The operation has also served as a technical partner of Motorsport Australia’s Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy Asia-Pacific Selection Program.

The Tatuus F4-T421 used in the 2024 Australian F4 season will once again be on the grid, but the Mygale M14-F4 that was used until 2019 makes its return this year as the “Gen 1” car, separating the series into two distinct classes.

There are three titles up for grabs this year: the Gen 1 Junior Cup for the top 14–17-year-old driver in the Mygale, the Gen 1 Masters Cup for the top driver over 18 in the Mygale, and the overall championship for any driver in the second-generation Tatuus. The winner of the Gen 1 Junior Cup will receive free entry into the Gen 2 class for 2026 and a test day in the Tatuus, while the winner of the outright championship will receive a free test in the United States in F4 US or FRegional Americas machinery.

The calendar

The 2025 championship boasts five rounds, with both The Bend Motorsport Park and Sydney Motorsport Park making two appearances on the calendar. The original opening round, set to take place at Sydney from 21 to 23 March, was postponed to August because of shipping delays, so The Bend now kicks off the season with consecutive rounds.

  • Round 1: The Bend Motorsport Park (23–25 May)
  • Round 2: The Bend Motorsport Park (12–13 July)
  • Round 3: Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit (16–17 August)
  • Round 4: Sydney Motorsport Park (29–31 August)
  • Round 5: Sydney Motorsport Park (26–28 September)

Format

The championship’s format remains the same as it was in 2024, but with the addition of another class. Five rounds are set to take place, with three races occurring during each round.

Each round typically includes two free practice sessions running for 40 minutes each. Following these is one more 15-minute practice session, ahead of two 15-minute qualifying sessions to determine the starting order. Race one will take place on Saturday, with races two and three occurring on Sunday. Each race will run for 25 minutes plus one lap.

The grid for race one will be determined by the results of qualifying one. The results of race one will set the grid for race two, and the results of qualifying two will determine the grid for race three. Because of the dual-class format, regardless of lap times, the grid for each race will have all of the second-generation Tatuus cars grouped at the front, followed by a vacant grid row. The first-generation Mygale cars will then be arranged in lap time order behind this.

The points system remains the same as it was last season. In each race, there are 25 points for the winner, 18 for second place, 15 for third and so on, with the 10th-place finisher receiving one point. One point will be awarded for the fastest lap time in each qualifying session, and another will go to the driver who sets the fastest lap in each race.

Where to watch

Live streams of the races are available on YouTube on both Blend Line TV’s channel with English commentary and Motorsport Television Deutschland’s channel with German commentary. Live timing will be available on NatSoft.
