Six junior single-seater championships take to the track this weekend, racing all throughout Europe as well as in Ohio. Feeder Series previews what’s to come in each.
By Feeder Series
Have you recovered yet from a breathless month of May? It may be a quieter week in professional motorsport as F1 and IndyCar take a weekend off after several weeks of frenetic action and the World Endurance Championship gears up for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, but there’s plenty more racing on the horizon this weekend in junior series.
At the level just below F3, FR Europe holds its third race weekend of the season at Zandvoort, while Euroformula Open splits off for its own third round at Hockenheim. Eurocup-3 also heads to its home in the Iberian Peninsula with a round at Portimão in sunny Portugal, where Spanish F4 joins it for their first of four rounds together.
Remaining at the entry level, British F4 also ventures to the high-speed Thruxton Circuit, where several drivers will join the grid for the first time, while USF Juniors goes to Mid-Ohio for its first of two rounds at the track, this time supporting the Michelin Pilot Challenge. Read on to get the lowdown on what’s going on in all of these series.

What to know: Formula Regional Europe heads to the Netherlands for its northernmost round of the season at Circuit Zandvoort, which has been on the calendar since 2021.
Matteo De Palo leads the standings after finishing second and sixth in the two races at Spa last time out, while Evan Giltaire trails him by 11 points after finishing fourth and 13th at the same round.
The star of Spa, however, was Enzo Deligny, who jumped up to third in points. The Frenchman took his maiden series podium in race one by finishing third and then held off the Japanese trio of Hiyu Yamakoshi, Jin Nakamura and Taito Kato to take his first win of the season in race two. The previous round’s other race winner, Freddie Slater, won the first race but retired in the second after an opening-lap collision. He heads to Zandvoort fourth in points.
CL Motorsport is back to running only one car, this time for Michael Belov. Macéo Capietto sits out the Zandvoort round as he prepares for his appearance in the 24 Hours of Le Mans next weekend.
Additionally, Akcel GP’s Aditya Kulkarni was replaced in pre-event testing by 2024 Eurocup-3 runner-up Javier Sagrera, who competed in F3 with AIX Racing earlier this year but left the series after two rounds. The British-licenced Indian driver is competing in the actual race weekend.

Weather forecast: Bright and sunny all weekend.
What to know: Eurocup-3’s return to Portimão will have echoes of the championship’s last visit to Portugal as part of the Spanish Winter Championship. In February, the circuit also hosted the championship’s second round, which featured two full-length races and a sprint race and had a Spanish F4 round held concurrently. It has been confirmed to Feeder Series that the next race weekend at Le Castellet will also feature a sprint race.
Last time out at the Red Bull Ring, winter series rivals Mattia Colnaghi and Maciej Gładysz each stood on the top step of the podium in one race. But whilst Colnaghi leads the standings with 47 points, Gładysz is third with 25 points, three points behind fellow countryman Kacper Sztuka. The winter series champion scored no points in the first race, whilst Sztuka finished second and fifth.
Four drivers return to the grid this weekend. Cristian Cantú joins Drivex for the rest of the season in the seat vacated by Wiktor Dobrzánski, who moves back to Spanish F4 to continue his main campaign in the series with Tecnicar. Mexico’s Cantú previously competed in the first two rounds of the winter series with GRS Team, with a best result of 18th.
Drivex Spanish F4 driver Edu Robinson and the outfit’s satellite team DX Racing Team both make their Eurocup-3 debuts this weekend. The British-Spanish driver competed in Spanish F4’s first round with the team, taking a best finish of 14th in race one.
At KCL by MP Motorsport, Kai Daryanani replaces Juan Cota, who moves back to MP’s Spanish F4 squad. The Indian driver currently competes in GB3 with JHR Developments and sits 14th in the standings with one podium.
Lastly, Theodor Jensen returns to the championship with Saintéloc Racing. The Danish driver currently leads the European Le Mans Series’ LMP3 standings with CLX Motorsport with two victories.

Weather forecast: Light rain possible all weekend.
What to know: Following the season’s northernmost round at Spa, the Euroformula Open championship heads to Hockenheim for its third round of the season.
Motopark’s Yevan David sits atop the standings after denying Tymek Kucharczyk a perfect weekend at Spa by winning race one by just 0.070 seconds. The Sri Lankan driver currently holds a 20-point gap over the Polish driver.
Kucharczyk’s jump from fourth to second in points at Spa came after a promising but ultimately difficult opening round of the season at Algarve. A further 21 points behind the BVM Racing driver sits Michael Shin, who has yet to win a race after finishing second three times in six races. Rounding out the top five in points are Edward Pearson, who won the opening race of the season, and Fernando Barrichello, who scored his first podium of the season last time out in race two.
While Kucharczyk heads to Hockenheim with momentum from his first two series wins, the driver on the other side of the garage won’t head to the circuit at all. Vladislav Ryabov left BVM Racing immediately following Spa and has teased a possible return to the series, but he did not release any more information about a comeback, nor did he respond to Feeder Series’ request for comment about his departure. The team has yet to name a replacement for Ryabov.

What to know: Spanish F4 arrives at Portimão for its first shared weekend with parent series Eurocup-3.
After taking two wins and a second place last time out at Navarra, Dutch driver René Lammers comes into the weekend at the top of the standings with 104 points. Despite having a disappointing weekend at Portimão in the winter series in February, the Dutch driver will hope to replicate the strong form he had at the circuit last June, as he explained to Feeder Series earlier this year.
Lammers’ closest title rival, winter series champion Thomas Strauven, sits seven points behind him in the standings. The Belgian driver won the first two races of Eurocup-4’s visit to Portimão and took three podiums last time out in Navarra.
There are two additions to the grid this weekend, one a returnee and one a debutant. Rodin F1 Academy driver Emma Felbermayr returns to Spanish F4 in between her F1 Academy commitments with the team, whilst Andre Rodriguez joins Monlau as the championship’s first wild card driver. The American driver makes his competitive European debut with the team after competing in the first round of the Skip Barber Race Series at Sebring, where he took a best result of seventh in race two.

What to know: Rookie Fionn McLaughlin took the lead of the British F4 drivers’ championship during the previous round at Snetterton while rivals Jimmy Pisczyk and August Raber struggled for pace in qualifying and had to battle through the midfield.
As McLaughlin took his first win of the season, Martin Molnár, last year’s Rookie Cup champion, was another who capitalised on Pisczyk’s and Raber’s plights, jumping from fourth to second in the standings with two top-five finishes. The battle for the championship lead remains tight, with the top four split by only 14 points heading into Thruxton.
Rodin Motorsport’s Adam Al Azhari appears to have settled in to the series with his victory in race one at Snetterton. As a result, Al Azhari closed the gap to Pisczyk, his much more experienced teammate at Rodin Motorsport, though he still sits 34 points adrift of the Australian in the standings.
Fortec Motorsport expand their line-up for this weekend, bringing on Ary Bansal and Thomas Ingram-Hill for part-time campaigns in the series. Ingram-Hill, 15, currently competes with the Daventry-based outfit in GB4, sitting 15th in the standings. Indian driver Bansal, also 15, races with rival team Elite Motorsport and sits fourth with one win and two podiums.
Virtuosi will also field a second car for the first time this season, with Salim Hanna joining the team for selected rounds this year as he simultaneously contests the Italian F4 championship. In that series, the 15-year-old is currently fifth in the overall standings with three podiums. He also leads the rookies’ championship.

After winning race three at Barber, Ty Fisher leads by one point over Zanella Racing teammate Leonardo Escorpioni, who had a near-perfect weekend last time out. Escorpioni won the first two races before finishing third behind Oliver Wheldon and Fisher in race three.
VRD Racing’s Wheldon, who led the standings after NOLA, sits third entering Mid-Ohio, 14 points behind Fisher and six ahead of João Vergara. Behind Vergara sits rookie Vilho Aatola, who scored his maiden series podium in race one last time out by finishing second to Escorpioni after starting second.
Twenty-two drivers are set to take part in this round, though there is one driver change. At JHDD, Harley Keeble replaces Belgium’s Karel Staut, who sits 10th in points but has encountered financial problems. England’s Keeble, 18, makes his single-seater debut following a career in karts during which he won the WSK Euro Series in 2021 in the OK-Junior class ahead of Alex Powell and Freddie Slater.
