Feeder Series weekend preview and schedule: 20–22 June

If you’re a regular Formula 2 and Formula 3 viewer looking to branch out to other forms of feeder series racing, there’s no better time to do so than this weekend, with as many as 14 other junior single-seater championships on the calendar.

By Feeder Series

It’s the summer solstice in the northern hemisphere and the winter solstice in the southern hemisphere, which means the longest – or shortest – days of the year are upon us this weekend. And there’s certainly no shortage of racing to accompany it, with track action from sunrise to sunset in no fewer than 14 junior single-seater series making for the busiest weekend of the year.

Japan’s Super Formula Lights is the easternmost series racing this weekend, taking on the Okayama International Circuit. In Europe, Eurocup-3 and Spanish F4 venture off to Le Castellet in France, while French F4 heads north of the border to the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps for its only international round this season. Feeder Series will be on the ground for the British F4 and Italian F4 rounds at Oulton Park and Monza respectively.

There’s plenty of racing in North America too, particularly in the American Midwest. Wisconsin’s Road America plays host to Indy NXT, USF Pro 2000 and USF2000, all of which support the IndyCar round there, while the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course welcomes FR Americas, F4 US and the Ligier Junior Formula Championship. NACAM F4 also holds its second race weekend in a row on a shortened layout of the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, home to F1’s Mexico City Grand Prix. The Americas rounds will be covered in a separate weekend review article, to be published Tuesday.

While not covered in this preview, Denmark’s Nordic 4 races at the Ring Djursland, and last year’s top rookie, Sebastian Bach, currently leads the standings. As for the lowdown on the other 13 series, keep reading to find out who’s racing, when they’re racing, and how to follow all the action.

Weather forecast: Cloudy Friday and Saturday. Rain expected Sunday.

What to know: Super Formula Lights heads to Okayama this weekend, and for the first time in the series’ history, as many as 14 drivers are entering two consecutive rounds of the championship.

B-Max Racing were especially strong at Okayama last year, winning all three races with Syun Koide and Kaylen Frederick – the only time they managed to do so last season. In 2025, however, the team has picked up only one win so far, courtesy of Frederick in Autopolis’ second race. He is second overall with less than half the points of championship leader Yuki Sano of TOM’S entering the third round.

Sano lost his win streak at Autopolis after having won his first four races in the series. He and teammate Rikuto Kobayashi, who tested Super Formula machinery with Team KCMG on 6 and 7 June, will be ones to watch this weekend as both aim to rediscover their form.

There are no driver changes going into the third round. Delightworks Racing will field Yugo Iwasawa in the #2 machine again after he switched to the team last time out at Autopolis, but his participation in further rounds is yet to be confirmed.

Weather forecast: Bright and sunny all weekend.

What to know: Eurocup-3 once again holds a race weekend with two full-length races and one 20-minute sprint race. Last time out at Portimão, Red Bull junior Ernesto Rivera supplanted fellow rookie driver Mattia Colnaghi at the top of the standings, with the Mexican driver on 66 points and the Italian-Argentine now third on 59 points.

In second on 61 points is Kacper Sztuka, who jumped ahead of Colnaghi after taking two third places compared to fifth- and seventh-place finishes for the reigning Spanish F4 champion. Still, Colnaghi can have hope for a good result this weekend given that he took two victories from pole at Le Castellet last year in Spanish F4, as can Maciej Gładysz, who won the final race of that weekend. The Eurocup-3 winter series champion has slipped to seventh in the standings after a tough weekend at Portimão.

Edu Robinson leaves DX Racing Team after a single appearance with the Drivex satellite team, being replaced by Owen Tangavelou. The Vietnamese driver competed in Eurocup-3 last year with MP Motorsport, finishing fourth with a win and two further podiums. He also races with DEForce Racing in USF Pro 2000 after competing in the first five rounds with Velocity Racing Development, with whom he achieved a best result of fifth in St Petersburg. Tangavelou will also miss this weekend’s round at Road America.

Theodor Jensen will also not be competing this weekend with Saintéloc Racing. However, it has been confirmed to Feeder Series that he will return for later rounds alongside his main campaign in the European Le Mans Series with CLX Motorsport.

How to follow: Free practice and qualifying sessions are only accessible via live timing. The races, however, will be live-streamed on the Italian F4 YouTube and Facebook channels and the ACI Sport website.

Weather forecast: Mostly sunny all weekend, with a chance of rain Saturday afternoon.

What to know: The Italian F4 championship heads to the home of F1’s Italian Grand Prix for its third round in 2025. For the first time this year, the series races on a circuit with enough capacity for all drivers to compete at the same time, meaning only three races will be contested.

Kean Nakamura-Berta is leading the standings despite a non-score in the final at Vallelunga. He has a 29-point advantage over his nearest rival and has taken victory in five of the six races in which he has participated.

Behind Nakamura-Berta is Sebastian Wheldon. With two wins and two further podiums to his name, he seems to be the only other driver likely to charge for the title.

Gabriel Gomez sits third in the standings, having made the most of the first-lap chaos in the final at Vallelunga to claim his first win and bring his total number of podium appearances to four.

Joining the Italian F4 grid for this round will be Javier Herrera for Jenzer Motorsport and Andre Rodriguez for Cram Motorsport. Herrera has already gotten acquainted with the team during the final round of the Formula Winter Series and through winter testing. Rodriguez, who made his F4 debut at the most recent Spanish F4 round with Monlau Motorsport, has been testing with Cram and will join Van Amersfoort Racing for the E4 Championship later this year.

Viola Formula Racing’s Emir Tanju and Tomass Štolcermanis, on the other hand, will sit out this round. They are currently sitting 38th and seventh in the standings respectively. Feeder Series understands that Latvia’s Štolcermanis had only been confirmed for two weekends with Prema Racing and did not renew his contract with the team ahead of Monza.

Weather forecast: Bright and sunny all weekend.

What to know: Winter series champion Thomas Strauven comes into the Le Castellet race weekend with a strong lead in the drivers’ standings. With a total of 170 points after taking a hat trick of wins last time out at Portimão, the Belgian driver now leads previous championship leader René Lammers by 58 points and raises his podium tally to eight.

Lammers and Jan Przyrowski – who sits third, two points behind the Dutchman – will be hoping to eat into Strauven’s advantage after failing to score in the first two races. In Portimão, the pair lost out on points in race one after the latter retired with a puncture at Turn 5 and the former crashed with Cota at Turn 1. In race two, penalties dropped Przyrowski from 16th to 29th and Lammers, who collided with the Pole mid-race, from fifth to 11th. Lammers finished race three sixth, while Przyrowski took second from pole.

The only driver leaving the grid ahead of this weekend is Monlau wild card driver Andre Rodriguez, who is racing in Italian F4 with Cram Motorsport. Another joins in Ricardo Baptista for DX Racing Team. The Brazilian driver previously competed in the Formula Winter Series’ Valencia round with Cram and in the opening round of Brazilian F4 with TMG Racing, achieving best finishes of 23rd and fifth respectively.

Weather forecast: Dry all weekend except for Saturday afternoon, with temperatures expected to reach 30ºC both Friday and Saturday. Clouds and cooler weather expected Sunday.

What to know: The top two in the British F4 standings have built a small gap over their rivals behind as the first half of the season draws to a close at Oulton Park. Virtuosi’s Martin Molnár took the lead in the drivers’ standings at the conclusion of round four at Thruxton, and he sits 10 points ahead of Red Bull junior Fionn McLaughlin.

The championship lead has been held by a different driver after each round of the season thus far, with McLaughlin and Molnár capitalising on recent misfortune for early championship leaders Tommy Harfield and Jimmy Piszcyk.

Further back in the standings, Henry Joslyn has begun to convert his strong qualifying performances into race results, taking four podiums from the last six races. The Fortec Motorsport driver, currently fifth, could challenge August Raber and Piszcyk for third in the championship this weekend if his momentum carries through to Oulton Park.

Only one of Thruxton’s debutants, Ary Bansal, will take part in this weekend’s event. Thomas Ingram-Hill and Salim Hanna are turning their attention back towards their respective full-time series – with Hanna racing at Monza in Italian F4 this weekend. Also watching from the sidelines this weekend will be Chris Dittmann Racing driver Charlie Edge, who misses this round as part of his limited-season Challenge Cup entry.

Weather forecast: Partly cloudy Friday. Sunny Saturday and Sunday morning.

What to know: The 30 drivers in the Formula 4 series centrally run by the FFSA reach the midpoint of their campaigns this coming weekend at the legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit, which is the only stop outside of France on the championship’s calendar this year.

Championship leader Alexandre Munoz has had the greatest start for a driver in French F4’s recent history with four wins in six races. On a track that is nothing like the twisty and short Nogaro and Dijon-Prenois, he will try to extend his gap over Jules Roussel and leading rookie Rafaël Pérard, who are both looking for their maiden wins.

Several other drivers have already shown glimpses of performances in the first two rounds. Nine competitors have stood on the podium, with Arthur Dorison winning the two reverse-grid races and Louis Iglesias the only rookie to have stepped on the podium at both rounds so far.

Live timing for all sessions is available on the IndyCar website.

Weather forecast: Sunny all weekend, with temperatures of 32ºC forecast for Saturday and 34ºC for Sunday.

What to know: Indy NXT holds its seventh round of 2024 at Road America, the longest circuit on the calendar. In last year’s round, Jamie Chadwick became the first woman in the history of IndyCar’s second tier to take pole and victory on a road or street course.

Entering this year’s event, Dennis Hauger continues to lead the championship, though his advantage was halved after the first oval event of the season at Gateway last weekend. There, teammate Lochie Hughes took his first oval victory after surging from sixth to first in the final 30 laps of the race and stretching out a 4.3521-second lead by the flag. The Australian rookie now sits 19 points behind his teammate and 59 points ahead of Caio Collet in third.

The grid remains at 19 cars, though several of HMD Motorsports’ drivers have rotated in and out of seats. Evagoras Papasavvas makes his return to the #24 car, which he drove at Barber and Indianapolis earlier in the year. He replaces Davey Hamilton, who is only running ovals.

Also returning to HMD is Liam Sceats, who unexpectedly missed the Gateway round. Meanwhile, former F2 driver Juan Manuel Correa, who joined the series from Indianapolis onwards, is missing this weekend because of a clash with the IMSA SportsCar Championship’s six-hour endurance race at Watkins Glen, which he will run as part of United Autosports’ #2 LMP2 entry.

How to follow: Qualifying sessions and races will be broadcast on the USF Pro Championships YouTube channel. Live timing is also available via the USF Pro 2000 website and via the USF Pro Championships app.

Weather forecast: Showers possible Friday morning. Otherwise, sunny all weekend, with temperatures of 32ºC forecast for Saturday and 34ºC for Sunday.

What to know: USF Pro 2000 reaches its halfway point this weekend at Road America, where the series returns to its usual fare of road and street courses following the Freedom 90 oval event at Indianapolis Raceway Park last month.

Pabst Racing’s Max Garcia holds a 41-point advantage over Ariel Elkin, who has starred since the start of last month. The Israeli driver took all three poles and won two races at Indianapolis Motor Speedway before securing a dominant victory in the Freedom 90 on his oval debut. He has 190 points, seven more than third-placed Alessandro de Tullio and 16 more than fourth-placed Mac Clark.

Pabst excelled in the series’ two-day test at Road America last week, with both Garcia and Jacob Douglas finishing in the top four in all six sessions. VRD Racing’s Max Taylor set the fastest time overall, pipping Douglas by 0.0571 seconds in day two’s second session.

There is a big-name addition to the series at Turn 3 Motorsport in Joseph Loake, a race winner in British F4 and GB3 who most recently raced single-seaters in F3 with Rodin Motorsport last season. The 20-year-old Briton had tested with Turn 3 at the USF Pro Fall Combine in Indianapolis last October and finished all six sessions in the top four, topping two. Loake also competes in the GT World Challenge Europe’s Endurance Cup in a Garage 59 McLaren entry and took his first podium last time out at Monza.

Comet/NCMP Racing’s Logan Adams and VRD Racing’s Frankie Mossman also return after having each skipped the Freedom 90.

Conversely, three drivers will miss the round, headlined by 2024 title contender Jace Denmark, who has encountered budget issues. Having finished on the podium nine times in 18 races last year, the 20-year-old Arizona native has endured a trying third season in the series with TJ Speed Motorsports, scoring no podiums in nine races this year. He presently sits eighth in the standings, 113 points off Garcia.

Having stepped up to USF Pro 2000 from USF2000, Brady Golan will be absent as he competes in the clashing FR Americas round at Mid-Ohio for Toney Driver Development. Jay Howard Driver Development’s Tanner DeFabis also misses this round, leaving the team without a driver to field.

Weather forecast: Showers possible Friday morning. Otherwise, sunny all weekend, with temperatures of 32ºC forecast for Saturday and 34ºC for Sunday.

What to know: The USF2000 Championship takes on its longest lap of the year at Road America with two races on Saturday set to be contested by the series’ largest grid in two years.

Thomas Schrage is the current points leader, having finished second at Indianapolis Raceway Park’s Freedom 75 last time out to extend his streak of podiums to six. Seven points behind him is Exclusive Autosport’s Jack Jeffers, a top prospect from USF Juniors over the last two years who has hit his stride as a rookie on the next rung on the ladder.

USF2000 joined USF Pro 2000 in testing at Road America last week. VRD Racing rookie Teddy Musella set the fastest overall time in the second session of day two ahead of Jeffers, who led three of the six sessions. Schrage and Lucas Fecury each led one session on the first day of running.

The grid expands to 23 cars this weekend thanks to the addition of five USF Juniors drivers as well as VRD Racing’s Ryan Giannetta, who returns after missing Indianapolis. All five newcomers will compete at Road America in USF Juniors next month along with brothers Patricio González and Rodrigo González, who have already run three races in USF2000.

Exclusive Autosport’s full line-up of Brenden Cooley and Kaylee Countryman steps up to USF2000, with Cooley joining his older brother Evan Cooley at the team co-owned by their father, Joshua Cooley. Thomas Nordquist also moves up with DEForce Racing, while Jay Howard Driver Development fields Harley Keeble, who made his open-wheel debut with the team two weeks ago at Mid-Ohio, and JT Hoskins, who will pilot the car most recently driven by early-season dominator and former championship leader Liam McNeilly.

Despite being on the initial entry list, JHDD’s Brad Majman is set to miss this round, with Keeble moving over from the original #5 entry to Majman’s #7 car. The Australian had scored a season-best third place at the Freedom 75 and sits ninth in the championship. Also not returning is Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing Development’s Elliot Cox in what was a one-off entry for the Freedom 75.

What to know:

With one of last week’s races postponed because of bad weather, FRegional Americas now heads to Mid-Ohio for its fourth round of the season, with an additional race on the schedule for the 12 drivers competing.

Nicolás Ambiado leaves Indianapolis having reclaimed the championship lead. The Chilean qualified third and went on to win race two, while former points leader Titus Sherlock missed out on a podium finish after retiring from race one and starting race two from the back.

Only six points separate the two contenders, so the fight for the title is far from over. Brazil’s Bruno Ribeiro, the top-placed rookie, sits third in the standings, just seven points behind Ambiado. Jett Bowling is close behind in fourth with a 14-point gap after taking his maiden series victory last time out.

Momentum Motorsports’ Anthony Autiello and Crosslink Motorsports’ Alex Benavitz are not part of the grid this weekend. In Benavitz’s place at Crosslink is Jake Pollack, who competed with Jensen Global Advisors in the first round. Meanwhile, Bijoy Garg, who joined Toney Driver Development in Day’s place last time out, returns to his full-time LMP2 commitments with Inter Europol Competition at IMSA SportsCar Championship’s Watkins Glen round.

Weather forecast: Showers Thursday. Sunny Friday through Sunday.

What to know: After a chaotic round at Road America, the F4 US Championship returns to Mid-Ohio for its third time racing this season with its smallest grid ever.

Differently from the previous rounds, this weekend in Mid-Ohio will only have two races. The practice and qualifying sessions will be combined with the Ligier Junior Formula Championship grid, as happened at COTA last year.

Kekai Hauanio comes to the weekend atop of the championship standings having secured podium finishes in all three races last time out, including two wins. Rookie Cooper Shipman follows in second with an 18.5-point deficit. Despite not taking any wins yet, Shipman has earned four podiums so far this year.

This weekend’s round will feature the smallest grid of the season. Typically composed of eight drivers, the field has shrunk to just six for this round, with Ty Arbogast and Luke Powers not racing this weekend. Caleb Campbell was also originally not present on the entry list but reappeared on the revised one published Thursday.

While the reduced line-up may impact the series’ overall competitiveness, both Hauanio and Shipman are racing, keeping the fight for the lead alive.

What to know: This weekend marks the third round of the Ligier Junior Formula Championship season, to be held at Mid-Ohio.

The series last held an event a month ago at Road America, where Drew Szuch secured two victories through post-race penalties and Daniel Cará took his first win in the series. Although Gaston Irazú did not win any races that weekend, his consistent performance – namely three second-place finishes – was enough to earn him a 26-point lead in the drivers’ standings. Szuch now sits in second place, followed by Cará on 35.5 points.

Zach Fourie and Josh Griffith, who both raced for Jensen in the opening round, are back racing for this round after missing Road America. They have moved teams, however, with Fourie going to Kiwi Motorsport and Griffith to Crosslink Motorsports. The two squads competed as a joint entry until this year.

Augusto Paschetta, who raced in all previous rounds, is not taking part in the Mid-Ohio round and will be replaced at Scuderia Buell by Pablo Benites, a fellow Argentine. Benites primarily raced in F4 US last year, finishing sixth in the standings with 102 points, and also entered a round of what was then the Ligier JS F4 Series. This is his first entry in the series this year.

What to know: After a break of almost two months, F4 NACAM is back this weekend in Mexico City.

The series last held a round in the beginning of May at the same venue, where Zaky Ibrahim dominated, winning all three races of the weekend. This led him to leave the round as the championship leader, with a 39-point advantage over Fernando Luque and a 64-point advantage over José Martínez, who sits in third.

The fight for the teams’ championship is turning out to be interesting as well. RAM Racing 1 currently sit in first with 178 points, but Alessandros Silver and Alessandros Blue are close behind them with 161 and 143 points respectively.
