Feeder Series weekend preview and schedule: 29–31 August

F1 Academy joins Formula 1 on its return to competition after the summer break as August wraps up with junior single-seater racing on four different continents. Feeder Series breaks down what you need to know.

By Feeder Series

If you thought the return of F1 meant the resumption of the F2 and F3 seasons too, you’ll have to wait a week. In the interim, though, why not check out some of the eight other junior single-seater championships racing this weekend?

F1 is supported by F1 Academy this weekend at Zandvoort, where a number of drivers already raced this year in the in-season British F4 round. That championship too is back on this weekend for its eighth round of 10, to be held on the full Donington Park layout.

Indy NXT has flown by over the past four months, and the IndyCar development now wraps up its 2025 season at Nashville. All the key championships have been won, but there’s still plenty at stake on the 2.14-kilometre oval – minor championship points placings, pride and even 2026 seat opportunities. They are joined on the North American side by FRegional Americas and F4 US, which venture up to Mosport in Canada.

It’s been a busy month of racing in Japan, and that continues this weekend. FR Japan and Super Formula Lights race together on the same weekend for the first time, and they do so with unprecedented tightness in their title battles. Nothing separates Super Formula Lights’ top two drivers, while only half a point separates FR Japan’s. In the Southern Hemisphere, AU4 also holds its penultimate round at Sydney Motorsport Park. Keep reading to find out more about the teams, drivers and series on track.

How to follow: Live timing is available via the F1 Academy website. Sessions are streamed on F1 TV and on F1 Academy’s YouTube and X accounts.

Weather forecast: Some sun on Friday morning and Saturday afternoon, but showers are expected across all three days.

What to know: F1 Academy returns to racing this weekend in Zandvoort after a nearly two-month-long break.

Heading into the fifth round of the season, Doriane Pin leads the standings with 109 points followed by Chloe Chambers with 89 points. Maya Weug, who will be racing on home soil this weekend, rounds out the top three with 72 points.

All returning drivers will have had experience on the Zandvoort circuit, which has been on the calendar since 2023. Last season, Pin won the second race at Zandvoort with a 1.9-second gap over Weug, racing at her home event. Weug also stood on the podium in the first race last year with a third-place finish.

The wild card entrant for the round at Zandvoort will be Esmee Kosterman, who will be supported by TeamViewer. The 20-year-old moved up to single-seaters last year, scoring points on her debut in Indian F4 with ninth- and tenth-place finishes at Madras. Kosterman has been racing in selected rounds of British F4 this year, with her best finish being 11th at Silverstone.

From the press: Emma Felbermayr was already quietly impressing as a rookie, but a breakthrough win in race two at Montréal showed her growth since the start of the year. We caught up with the 18-year-old Austrian, who represents Sauber in the series, to learn about her start to life in single-seaters. Read the article here.

Behind each of Felbermayr’s successes is a supportive mentor in F1 Academy alumna Carrie Schreiner. The same goes for teammate Ella Lloyd, who receives guidance from 2024 F1 Academy champion Abbi Pulling. The two rookies met us in Montréal to discuss how their mentors are guiding them through their first seasons. Read what they said here.

Indy NXT: Round 14, Nashville

Circuit: Nashville Superspeedway, 2.140 km

Schedule: All times local (UTC−5)

Saturday 30 August

  • 8:05–8:55: Practice
  • 11:35–12:20: Qualifying

Sunday 31 August

  • 10:35–11:10: Race

How to follow: All sessions are streamed live on IndyCar Live. Country-specific availability is listed here. In the United States, Fox Sports 2 will show qualifying, while Fox Sports 1 will broadcast practice and the race. Live timing for all sessions is available on the IndyCar website

Weather forecast: Warm and sunny all weekend.

What to know: After six months of competition, Indy NXT rounds out its 2025 season at the Nashville Superspeedway, the fastest circuit the series visits all year.

Last time out in Milwaukee, Rookie of the Year Dennis Hauger of Andretti Global wrapped up the drivers’ championship, while Caio Collet of HMD Motorsports secured second place. That means that while there’s little to play for in terms of the big prizes, drivers still have plenty of room to make an impact heading into 2026. In particular, Abel Motorsports’ re-signing of second-year Myles Rowe, currently fourth in the Indy NXT standings, for another season has put in place the first candidate likely to challenge for the 2026 title.

Eighteen drivers will compete this weekend, and there are two changes at HMD Motorsports. As was announced last week, Nolan Allaer will return after missing the Milwaukee round because of clashing family- and school-related commitments. Absent this round despite being scheduled to compete is Nikita Johnson, who last raced with HMD at the Indianapolis double-header in May. Since the GB3 round in Brands Hatch last time out, Johnson has been testing FR Europe machinery with Trident at Mugello in Italy and is still in Europe at the time of publication.

British F4: Round 8, Donington Park

Circuit: Donington Park Grand Prix Circuit, 4.020 km

Schedule: All times local (UTC+1)

Thursday 28 August

  • 10:10–10:55: Practice 1
  • 13:30–14:15: Practice 2

Saturday 30 August

  • 10:25–10:50: Qualifying
  • 14:10–14:30: Race 1

Sunday 31 August

  • 09:15–09:35: Race 2
  • 13:15–13:40: Race 3

How to follow: Races two and three will be broadcast live for UK viewers on ITV and ITVX, in the US and Canada on the Racer+ app, and globally (excluding the UK and North America) on the British F4 YouTube channel. Live timing for all sessions can be found on TSL Timing

Weather forecast: Mostly cloudy, with rain expected during afternoon running on Thursday and Saturday. Strong wind gusts expected throughout.

What to know: Fionn McLaughlin extended his buffer at the top of the British F4 standings last time out at Knockhill. He now holds a 40.5-point lead over title rival Martin Molnár despite coming off second-best as the pair came to blows once again at the end of race three.

Molnár’s two crashes in two weekends have helped Jimmy Piszcyk close back in on the battle at the top of the standings. The Rodin Motorsport driver is now just 17 points away from Molnár despite having himself been caught up in the incident at Knockhill.

Tommy Harfield will continue to compete for Chris Dittmann Racing this weekend despite having announced prior to Knockhill that his 2025 campaign would end at the Dunfermline track. As this will be his eighth round of the season, Harfield forfeits his 99-point lead in the Challenge Cup – in which entrants are limited to competing in any seven rounds of their choosing – to Ella Lloyd.

With Ary Bansal in second having run two fewer events than her, Lloyd may not hold the lead in the Challenge Cup for long, as she and Alba Larsen will miss this round to compete in the F1 Academy event at Zandvoort. Also missing this round will be Haarni Sadiq as part of his limited campaign with JHR Developments.

Returning to the championship this weekend are Challenge Cup drivers Charlie Edge and Thomas Ingram Hill, as well as Edge’s CDR teammate Piotr Orzechowski and Virtuosi driver Oleksandr Savinkov.

McLaren development driver Dries Van Langendonck will make his single-seater debut this weekend, joining Rodin for the final three rounds of the championship. Van Langendonck won both the FIA Karting European Championship and the Champions of the Future Euro Series in the OK-Junior class in 2024. The Belgian driver took part in tests at Brands Hatch and Donington Park earlier this month, ending the day at Donington Park with the fifth-fastest time.

Weather forecast: Partly cloudy from Thursday to Sunday. High temperatures are expected to reach 35ºC on Saturday.

What to know: Super Formula Lights enters its fourth round of the 2025 season with 13 drivers at Sugo this weekend.

Nothing separates the championship leader Yuki Sano from runner-up Yuto Nomura except for an additional win. Toyota junior driver Sano had a weekend to forget at Okayama last time out, scoring just four points all weekend, while Honda junior Nomura swept the round and collected 32 points.

The series will have four races at Sugo this weekend following the cancellation of the third race at the second round at Autopolis.

Compared with the previous round, this round has just one departee in the form of Yugo Iwasawa of Delightworks Racing. Iwasawa previously contested the second and third rounds as a replacement for Souta Arao.

Weather forecast: Partly cloudy from Friday to Sunday. High temperatures are expected to reach 35ºC on Saturday.

What to know: FRegional Japan enters its fourth round of the season at Sugo with nine drivers this weekend.

The gap between championship leader Tokiya Suzuki and his TOM’S teammate Kiyoshi Umegaki came down to just half a point at the previous round at Suzuka after the pair collided in the first race and Umegaki took the win in the second race.

In recent weeks, their rivalry has transcended the FR Japan paddock. Feeder Series understands that both Suzuki and Umegaki have tested with FR Europe team R-ace GP since the previous round, and one will get the opportunity to follow in fellow Toyota junior Jin Nakamura’s footsteps and make a switch to European racing in 2026.

Third round winner Kazuhisa Urabe of B-Max Racing will not take part in this weekend’s round, as he prioritises Super Formula Lights. Ragno Motor Sport’s Lin Chenghua is likewise absent, as was planned ahead of the season, and Master class driver “Yuki” will also not take part in the Sugo round. “Yugo”, who previously competed in the second round at Fuji, will make his return as the only challenger of Yutaka Toriba in the Master class.

What to know: FR Americas comes to its sixth round of the season in Canada, the only one taking place outside the United States.

During the last round in New Jersey, Bruno Ribeiro was the driver in the spotlight. Finishing on the podium in both races and winning race one, the Brazilian left the round first in the championship standings, extending his lead over Nicolas Ambiado. He currently has a 11-point advantage over the Chilean and is also the best-placed rookie, 97 points ahead of second-placed Brady Golan.

After having missed the last round, Kevin Janzen returns this weekend with Kiwi Motorsport. New to the grid this time is Callum Baxter, who will be racing with Atlantic Racing. The 19-year-old Canadian currently races in GB4 with Graham Brunton Racing and sits 13th in the standings with a best finish of third, having missed only the Brands Hatch round last weekend.

This weekend’s grid will have eight cars racing for the second time this season. The grid is similar from the last round’s except for the addition of Oliver Savoie, who will race with Kiwi Motorsport for his first single-seater races.

The last round had a race cancelled, meaning that only two took place. In those, the podium was exactly the same: Cooper Shipman in first, Kekai Hauanio in second and Clemente Huerta in third. Shipman currently leads the championship standings with a 17-point advantage over Hauanio, who is second. Popow’s difficult round at New Jersey dropped him 27.5 points off the back of Hauanio.

What to know: The AU4 Championship heads into its penultimate round at Sydney Motorsport Park following a dramatic outing at Phillip Island. In Gen1, Jensen Marold won all three Phillip Island races, cementing his place as championship leader with 239 points.
