Feeder Series weekend preview and schedule: 05–07 September

Following the return of Formula 1 last weekend, its primary feeder categories, F2 and F3, resume their seasons at Monza this weekend alongside myriad other European championships.

By Feeder Series

September is here, and so are F2 and F3, back in action for the first time since early August. For F3, which has already crowned its drivers’ champion, the season finale at Monza will decide the teams’ champion, while it will be a pivotal round in both championship races in F2, which has three more rounds after this one.

The tier below F3 will also be busy this weekend, beginning all the way from Friday morning. Eurocup-3 supports the 12-hour race at Spa known as the 992 Endurance Cup, and its qualifying session and races will take place Friday. FRegional Europe and Euroformula Open will share a paddock once more at Spielberg as they return from their respective summer breaks, and Super Formula Lights will hold the second of two back-to-back rounds, this time at Fuji.

Two F4 championships will also race this weekend, and both could see their titles wrapped up. F4 CEZ’s drivers’ championship is guaranteed to be decided this weekend in one of the three races at the Brno season finale. F4 SEA holds one more round after this weekend’s at Sepang, but runaway championship leader Alex Sawer needs to outscore teammate and nearest rival Seth Gilmore by only 22 points to wrap it up early. Keep reading to find out the stakes of all the battles and how to keep up with them.

Schedule: All times local (GMT+2)

Friday 5 September

  • 11:00–11:45: Practice
  • 15:55–16:25: Qualifying

Saturday 6 September

Weather forecast: Sunny intervals on Friday, turning to blue skies with light winds on Saturday and Sunday.

What to know: Formula 2 returns from its summer break at Monza with four rounds remaining in the 2025 season.

Invicta Racing’s Leonardo Fornaroli leads the way in the drivers’ standings on 154 points, with three wins in the last three rounds after he headed a dominant Invicta 1-2 at the Hungaroring. Fornaroli will look to extend his 17-point advantage at his home race and at the venue where he won the F3 championship last year. Invicta won last year’s Monza feature race, with Gabriel Bortoleto memorably charging from 22nd and last on the grid to first.

DAMS’ Jak Crawford is second with 137 points and is looking to build on his Hungaroring double podium. MP’s Richard Verschoor, running a new livery for weight-saving purposes, is two points back on 135, with Hitech’s Luke Browning a further 10 behind on 125. Alex Dunne of Rodin Motorsport rounds out the top five on 124. There are no driver changes. Follow head of content Michael on X for updates from the paddock.

From the press: Summer break special

When Feeder Series was last in the paddock at Silverstone, we sat down with the top three drivers in the standings – or those who know them best – to find out more about how their 2025 seasons have unfolded.

Invicta Racing’s James Robinson is F2’s newest team principal, having been in the role for all of six months. In that time, he has overseen dramatic growth from Leonardo Fornaroli and Roman Staněk, who have won four of the past six races between them. Read his story here.

Jak Crawford is chasing Fornaroli for the points lead, but as a third-year F2 driver, he’s also chasing professional opportunities – including with Andretti in Formula E and with Aston Martin in F1. Read about how he’s juggling all his responsibilities here.

At the last F2 round, Richard Verschoor broke the record for the highest number of starts in F2. Amid mounting questions about his experience level and professional aspirations, the 24-year-old title aspirant holds one idea firm: age doesn’t define him. Read his words here.

And if that’s not enough, you can read our takeaways from the previous round here.

Formula 3: Round 10, Monza

Circuit: Autodromo Nazionale Monza, 5.793 km

Schedule: All times local (UTC+2)

Friday 5 September

  • 9:35–10:20: Practice
  • 15:00–15:10 Qualifying group A
  • 15:20–15:30 Qualifying group B

Saturday 6 September

  • 9:15–10:00: Sprint race (18 laps)

Sunday 7 September

  • 8:15–9:05: Feature race (22 laps)

How to follow: All sessions will be live-streamed on F1 TV, but fans can also follow them live via the series’ live timing service. Local viewing information can be found here.

Weather forecast:  Sunny intervals on Friday, turning to blue skies with light winds on Saturday and Sunday.

What to know: Formula 3 concludes its 2025 season at Monza, which serves as the season finale for the fourth consecutive year.

The two-group qualifying format also returns after a divisive debut at the circuit last year. The format aims to combat traffic by splitting the grid into two 10-minute sessions, down from 13 each last year.

Rafael Câmara wrapped up the drivers’ championship last time out in Hungary, so all eyes turn to second place in the standings. Mari Boya occupies the spot entering Monza with 108 points, with Nikola Tsolov trailing him by just two points. Tim Tramnitz is further back with 93 but is still in contention along with Martinius Stenshorne, Noah Strømsted and Théophile Naël.

Trident on 282 points and Campos Racing on 263 points remain in contention for the teams’ championship. Trident last won the teams’ title in 2021, while Campos have never finished higher than fourth.

After competing with AIX Racing for six rounds of the 2025 season, James Hedley makes the switch to Van Amersfoort Racing for the final round. He replaces Imola feature winner Santiago Ramos, who has parted ways with the team. Ramos was ranked 14th in the championship entering the round.

Fernando Barrichello, son of former F1 driver Rubens Barrichello, joins AIX Racing in Hedley’s former seat ahead of a full F3 campaign with the team in 2026. The 19-year-old Brazilian will therefore miss the Spielberg round of his main campaign in Euroformula Open, in which he sits fifth in the standings with 149 points.

From the press: In a paddock of deep pockets and squeaky-clean public images, William Alatalo was an outlier. F3’s cash-strapped, free-spoken Finn captivated fans with his larger-than-life personality – until he vanished from the series at the end of 2022. What happened, where is he now, and what is his story? He sat down to tell us as only he could.

What to know: The 2025 FR Europe campaign resumes after the summer break at the Red Bull Ring to kick off the final four rounds of the season.

Freddie Slater is currently the points leader in the championship. Despite having been disqualified in race two at Imola because of a technical non-conformity, the Englishman is still first in the standings with five wins and three further podiums to his name.

At a 16-point distance is Matteo De Palo, who hasn’t achieved a podium finish since race one at Le Castellet. The Italian driver has claimed six top-three results, including two wins at Misano and the Hungaroring.

Rounding out the top three is R-ace GP’s Enzo Deligny, one of the protagonists of the latest weekend of action at Imola. Deligny added one race win and a result of second to his season tally, which already included one victory and two further podium finishes.

Akcel GP are set to leave the FR Europe grid for the remainder of the season. The team achieved their best result in race two at the Hungaroring, where Aditya Kulkarni claimed a finish of 14th. As a consequence, Saqer Al Maosherji will switch to G4 Racing for the final four rounds of the season. The Kuwaiti driver took two best finishes of 19th, in race two at Misano and in race two at Zandvoort.

Several drivers will make their debut at the regional level during the Red Bull Ring round of FR Europe. Zherui Chi and Enea Frey will join forces with CL Motorsport, who will line up three cars for the first time this season. The Chinese and Swiss drivers are currently seventh and 19th in Italian F4 respectively, with the former having claimed victory in race three at Monza in late June.

Also joining the FR Europe grid for the weekend is Alex Powell. The Miami native will return with Prema Racing after having competed in his sophomore Italian F4 campaign with R-ace GP. He is set to participate as a wild card, meaning he will be ineligible to score points. Powell is currently fourth in the series with two wins and two further podiums.

As a consequence of Enzo Yeh’s reported decision to end his single-seater career after a scoreless season in FRegional Europe and one podium finish in F4 UAE in 2024, Reno Francot will step in for RPM Motorsport and make his Formula Regional debut. The 17-year-old is currently competing in Spanish F4, in which he sits sixth in the standings with two podium finishes. He will be joining MP Motorsport teammate Ean Eyckmans, who made his FR Europe debut at the Hungaroring in early July and has thus far scored points once, in race two in Imola.

Report by Francesca Brusa

From the Red Bull Ring round onwards, Akcel GP will no longer take part in the 2025 FR Europe season | Credit: Alex Galli

From the press: Now in his second year of FRegional Europe, Pedro Clerot is fourth in the standings and quietly leading one of Van Amersfoort Racing’s strongest seasons in the series. The Brazilian explained what he’s done to make his 2025 a success and how his maiden win at Zandvoort reflected his and the team’s efforts to grow. Read the article here.

From the press: Enzo Deligny is one place and 12 points ahead of Clerot in a tight battle for third. The championship title may be slipping out of reach, but for Deligny, the 2025 season is about more than just wins on track – it’s about redemption, about proving to himself and former backers Red Bull that he still has untapped potential. Read what he said here.

How to follow: Every race will be streamed live on Euroformula Open’s YouTube channel. Live timing is available at cronococa.com.

Weather forecast: Rain possible Friday afternoon. Mostly sunny Saturday and mostly cloudy Sunday.

What to know: A month and a half after its Paul Ricard round, Euroformula Open returns to action at the Red Bull Ring.

Tymek Kucharczyk leads the standings on 230 points after winning race one last time out and standing on the podium in the other two races. Seventeen points behind him is Yevan David, who was second to Kucharczyk in race one but finished no higher than 10th in the other two races following collisions with Preston Lambert.

David’s misfortune enabled Motopark teammates Michael Shin and José Garfias to close the gap to him. Shin barely missed the podium in race two, while Garfias made more substantial gains as he finished third in race one and won race three.

Behind them, Edward Pearson sits sixth, two points behind Fernando Barrichello, who will make his F3 debut at Monza with AIX this weekend but will return for the final two Euroformula Open rounds.

Joining the grid are four new faces at three different teams. BVM Racing’s second car alongside Kucharczyk will be driven this weekend by 22-year-old Venezuelan Alessandro Famularo, who currently sits 27th in Eurocup-3 with Drivex.

Italian F4 mainstay Luca Viișoreanu will step up and join Motopark, replacing Barrichello. The 16-year-old Romanian left Real Racing and Italian F4 after five rounds, in which he scored 14 points with a best result of fourth at Monza to be ranked 20th in points.

Nielsen Racing, meanwhile, will have two new drivers joining the team. Eighteen-year-old Argentine Francisco Soldavini will replace Gino Trappa at the team’s #32 entry while his countryman competes in F4 CEZ, whilst 17-year-old Ricardo Miranda Baptista will replace Finley Green at the team’s #69 entry.

Soldavini was third in last year’s Ultimate Formula Cup standings, with six wins to his name, but he has spent most of 2025 on the sidelines, most recently testing F2 machinery at Mugello. Baptista, meanwhile, sits 12th in points in his rookie season in Brazilian F4 and has previously made one-off appearances in Spanish F4 and the Formula Winter Series. Baptista is also the son of sports car racer Ricardo Baptista. Follow Euroformula Open editor Marco on X for updates from the paddock.

Weather forecast: Partly cloudy throughout the day, with possible rain in the early afternoon.

What to know: With the 992 Endurance Cup’s 12-hour race dominating proceedings on Saturday, all of Eurocup-3’s competitive action will take place today, 5 September.

Last time out at Assen, recently announced Red Bull junior Mattia Colnaghi dominated the weekend, topping both qualifying sessions and crossing the line first in both races. The current championship leader, however, only kept his race two victory after he was given a 10-second post-race time penalty in race one for being incorrectly positioned in his grid box. Teammate Valerio Rinicella, who inherited that win, is 12 points behind Colnaghi in second on 165 points.

In yesterday’s test sessions, KCL by MP Motorsport’s Kai Daryanani finished fastest in a wet first session while winter series champion Maciej Gładysz topped the standings in the dry second session. In the free practice session late in the afternoon, Colnaghi finished fastest.

Allay Racing are back to a two-car entry as Michael Belov returns to FR Europe with CL Motorsport, whilst Drivex field two FR debutants.

With Alessandro Famularo competing in Euroformula Open with BVM Racing this weekend, Christopher El Feghali (#4) will move up from Drivex’s Spanish F4 squad this weekend. The Lebanese driver, who turned the series’ minimum age of 16 last Friday, is currently 13th in the standings with one podium in race two at Portimão.

The other FR debutant is USF Pro 2000 driver Jorge Garciarce (#25). The 20-year-old Mexican driver replaces Preston Lambert, who is still recovering from breaking his hand in a crash with Lenny Ried last time out. Garciarce finished 14th in the USF Pro 2000 standings this year, with a best result of sixth in Toronto.

Lastly, Spanish F4 driver Wiktor Dobrzański (#17) returns for his third weekend with Drivex, replacing Lucas Fluxá. The 18-year-old Polish driver last competed in the championship in Monza, where he retired from both races. On Saturday, the Polish driver was involved in a first-lap collision with Alceu Feldmann Neto, and on Sunday, he suffered terminal technical issues.

Weather forecast: Heavy rain and thunderstorms expected Friday. Cloudy Saturday and Sunday, with temperatures reaching 33ºC by the end of the weekend.

What to know: Twenty-eight points and two positions in the championship separated B-Max Racing’s Yuto Nomura from then-championship leader Yuki Sano of TOM’S following Super Formula Lights’ second round at Autopolis.

Since then, Nomura has won all seven races, not only closing his points gap but building one himself to lead Sano by 14 points with two rounds to go.

Three out of the five rounds so far have been swept by Sano or Nomura, but this weekend could see a more equal playing field. The series enters its fifth round of the season on Toyota’s own circuit at Fuji this weekend – a venue that has last been swept by a team in 2022, when TOM’S won all three races.

There is one driver change this weekend at B-Max Racing. Team owner Ryuji Kumita, or “Dragon”, has not missed a single race in Super Formula Lights since its inaugural season in 2020, but he will be absent this weekend.

Kumita will be replaced by 29-year-old series debutant Takuya Otaki. The former Honda junior raced for the manufacturer’s junior team Honda Formula Dream Project in Japanese F4 from 2016 until 2018, taking two wins and a best result of fifth in the championship in 2017. He returned to the series in 2021 and 2022, driving for Kageyama Racing. Otaki has also been active in GT racing since 2019 and drove the cars that won titles in Super Taikyu’s ST-3 class in 2022 and 2024.

Friday’s second practice, originally scheduled to run from 13:15 to 14:45, was cancelled Friday morning because of inclement weather. A replacement session lasting 30 minutes was scheduled for 17:25.

How to follow: Every race will be streamed live on F4 CEZ’s YouTube channel.

Weather forecast: Sunny all weekend

What to know: F4 CEZ heads to Brno for its final round of the season, with a champion still yet to be decided.

Gino Trappa, the previous round’s race three winner,  leads the standings by 35 points over Max Karhan, his nearest rival and only challenger for the title. The Argentine came into the previous round with a mathematical chance to clinch the title with five races left, but as Karhan stood on the podium for all three races, Trappa had his worst weekend of the season.

Behind them, Javier Herrera and Hady-Noah Mimassi sit third and fourth in points respectively after standing on the podium at least once last time out, while Nicolás Cortés fell to sixth after not scoring throughout all three races.

Notably continuing on the grid is the winner of races one and two last weekend, Maffi Racing’s Kirill Kutskov, who currently sits 10th in points. Kutskov was the championship runner-up in 2024, and he currently competes in Italian F4 with the same team.

The only new addition to the grid is Florentin Hattemer, who will take over Jenzer’s vacated #25 entry. The 15-year-old Swiss driver spent most of 2025 testing F4 machinery having come off a career in karts, which came to an abrupt halt in late 2024 after a crash at Cremona left him with serious leg injuries.

Saturday 6 September

  • 9:10–9:25: Qualifying 1
  • 9:35–9:50: Qualifying 2

Saturday 7 September

  • 10:00–10:25: Race 2
  • 16:35–17:00: Race 3

How to follow: Qualifying and the races will be streamed on F4 SEA’s YouTube channel. Test sessions are only available through live timing.

Weather forecast: Mostly sunny conditions Friday. Cloudy Saturday and Sunday, though overnight thunderstorms may spill over into the morning on both days.

What to know: After a two-month hiatus following its street circuit round at Bangsaen, F4 SEA returns for its fourth of five rounds this weekend at Sepang with its largest grid of the season.

Four new additions dot the grid for this weekend, one of whom makes his highly anticipated single-seater debut. Ferrari junior Niccolò Maccagnani, who turned 15 last week, will join the returning Pinnacle Motorsport outfit after having conducted extensive testing in open-wheel machinery over the past few years. He will line up alongside Singaporean 15-year-old Kareen Kaur, who made her single-seater debut in Indian F4 last month and sits 14th in the standings with eight points.

BlackArts Racing Team add a driver to their roster under the BlackArts Racing Academy name, as 17-year-old Malaysian Imran Halim also makes his single-seater debut. Having competed in karting in his native country as a child, Halim moved to the United States of America to pursue golf in high school. He returned to racing in 2024 in the MSF Production Series.

Evans GP also add one driver to their lineup in 16-year-old Kyuho Lee, who races for Rodin Motorsport in Spanish F4 and has taken one points finish so far. The South Korean raced against Evans over the winter as a Pinnacle Motorsport entrant in F4 Middle East.

As for those already in the series, Alex Sawer still holds a commanding advantage in the standings of 72 points over Evans GP teammate Seth Gilmore. Sawer has won seven of the eight races this year, only missing out in victory in race one at Bangsaen after a spectacular collision with eventual winner Gilmore. He can wrap up the title if he has an advantage of 94 points or more over his nearest rival come the end of the weekend.

Absent, however, is Thai driver Ayrton Asdathorn, part of the Star Performance line-up that had contested the previous two rounds in Thailand. Asdathorn, who is fifth in the standings, had finished in the top four in each of the five races he entered and took pole position for race one in Bangsaen.
