Lower-level single-seater racing around Europe once again takes the spotlight as the month of May ends, with FR Europe and GB3 both racing at Spa and British F4 heading to Silverstone, among others. Feeder Series previews the action.
By Feeder Series
Coming off such a busy weekend – in loose terms, for it ran from Thursday to Monday – we all could do with a slight reprieve in junior single-seaters. And while seven series is hardly a light schedule compared with the winter, it’s certainly less hectic all around.
Two of the most significant championships this weekend feature on the same circuit, Spa in Belgium. GB3 and FR Europe will race at the Belgian track, while another series at the same level, the Ultimate Cup Series Formula Cup, is at the Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours in France. British F4 at Silverstone and F4 CEZ at the Salzburgring round out the European championships we’re covering this weekend.
Don’t think for a moment, though, that there is no activity elsewhere. Just a week after a record-breaking Indianapolis 500, IndyCar heads to the streets of Detroit and takes support series Indy NXT with it, while on the other side of the world, AU4 goes to Sydney Motorsport Park for its second round.
Meanwhile, Nordic 4 heads to Sweden for the first time this year, returning to Gelleråsen for the fourth season in a row. All three cars are represented at the top of the standings: F4 by Matteis Stigsen, who leads after two rounds; F5 by Mille Hoe, 15 points behind; and Aquila by Richard Olsen, a further 18 adrift.
The number of Aquilas will double as Swedish drivers Elias Adestam and Jonathan Öhlander join the field for the first time. Round one podium finisher Rosanne den Drijver is expected to return. No F5 drivers, including Hoe, are currently on the entry list.

What to know: Three weeks after the races on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course, Indy NXT’s 24 drivers will race through the streets of Detroit in support of the IndyCar Series, commencing a run of four races in four weekends.
Nikita Johnson, who turned 18 on Monday, leads the championship with 231 points, closely followed by Tymek Kucharczyk, who scored his first Indy NXT win in race two at IMS with 220 points. Last week, the Polish driver competed in USF Pro 2000’s Freedom 90 with TJ Speed Motorsports – run by his HMD Motorsports Indy NXT engineer, Tim Neff – to get some oval experience under his belt. Kucharczyk impressed by outqualifying his more experienced teammates and bringing home a hard-fought third place.
Max Taylor is third in the standings with 217 points, and Enzo Fittipaldi, who won race one at IMS, sits in fourth with 215 points, just 16 points behind Johnson.
There are no driver changes expected this weekend.

What to know: FR Europe heads to Spa-Francorchamps for its third round as the championship concludes the first of two back-to-back race weekends of 2026.
Sebastian Wheldon looks to solidify his championship lead after pinching the top spot from Reno Francot, who is now second. The Floridian seemed at home in the Low Countries after taking a pole position and both race wins last weekend in Zandvoort.
The other polesitter was Kean Nakamura-Berta. The Japanese-Slovak driver has taken all but one pole position thus far but has only converted one, his first, into victory.
That execution leaves him only fourth in the championship, 27 points behind Wheldon – a position with which he would surely be dissatisfied with a quarter of the season already complete.
The fifth-place position remains hotly contested. Consistency has helped Zhenrui Chi, 50 points behind Wheldon, retain the spot, though those drivers will hope to break into the title fight.
There are no driver changes expected this weekend.

VRD Racing’s Nikita Bedrin comes into the weekend as championship leader after a dominant first round at Silverstone, where he took double pole and two race wins. He is followed by Rodin Motorsport’s Maxim Rehm, who stood on the podium twice during the season opener, and Hitech’s Jin Nakamura, who took the win in the reverse-grid race three at Silverstone.
VRD Racing also head up the charge in the teams’ championship with 128 points, followed by Rodin Motorsport, with 105 points, and Xcel Motorsport, with 94 points.

What to know: After a thrilling season opener at Le Castellet in which rookie Stepan Suslov won all races in dominant fashion, the Ultimate Cup Series’ Formula Cup championship will continue its season at Magny-Cours this weekend.
The series does so, however, with heavy hearts. Earlier this month, gentleman driver class competitor Walter Rykart, the series’ longest-tenured competitor, died unexpectedly at the age of 66. Feeder Series mourns his loss and extends its condolences to his family, friends and loved ones. A commemorative ceremony took place Thursday on track.
Racing action will once again take place on Friday and Saturday. Winfield driver Suslov is going into round two with a 21-point lead over teammate Martin Stoyanov, who is unexpectedly absent this round. Frenchman Alexis Størksen is also in contention for the championship lead with two podiums, which puts him 33 points behind Suslov.
In the gentleman driver class, Race Motorsport’s Frédéric Boillot likewise leads the standings by 21 points over the late Swiss driver Rykart. The third opponent in contention, Frédéric Morihain, only scored 21 points in class. Morihain is also absent this weekend, as is fourth-placed Thierry Malhomme, just a point behind.
Lucas Valkre will miss this round as he is participating in the McLaren Trophy Europe this week. Meanwhile, 2024 rookie champion Enzo Richer (#66) is returning to the grid, driving for Lamo Racing Car. Portuguese driver Alexandre Lima (#77) is also returning to the grid with Formula Motorsport, Rykart’s former team. He has never participated in a full season since his debut in 2024, with a best result of seventh. Last but not least, 29-year-old Frenchman Corentin Tierce (#11) is joining the grid this week with his family-run Tierce Racing team after coming up from various GT4 and Touring Car series.
Report by Julien Thoinet

From the press: UCS Formula Cup driver Walter Rykart passed away aged 66 on 7 May, just a week and a half after his final single-seater race at Le Castellet. Rykart, an entrepreneur hailing from Switzerland, had started 123 of the series’ 126 races during his lifetime. Read our tribute to a beloved racer in the paddock here.

Weather forecast: Mostly sunny across the weekend, with temperatures remaining warm across the weekend’s running. Rain is possible on Sunday.
What to know: British F4 heads to the Silverstone GP circuit for the second leg of its back-to-back race weekends before the summer break, headlining the Silverstone International Trophy weekend.
McLaren junior Dries Van Langendonck once again extended his lead in the drivers’ championship at Snetterton. However, JHR Developments’ Lewis Wherrell was the standout driver at the Norfolk circuit, taking double pole and two race wins to jump from 10th to second in the standings.
While Wherrell thrived at round three, Ethan Jeff-Hall and Tommy Harfield – both ear-marked ahead of the season as likely title contenders – struggled for success at Snetterton, with both dropping down the championship tables and Harfield in particular taking just a single point across the weekend. Both drivers will be hoping for an upturn in form, having each taken a podium at the series’ last visit to the GP circuit for the F1 support round last July.
Piotr Orzechowski will miss both this round and the next at Zandvoort owing to academic commitments, as was the case with the round he missed at Brands Hatch. Returning to Chris Dittmann Racing in his place is Alba Larsen, who raced with the team for seven rounds of the championship last year with a best finish of 11th. Larsen is currently competing in her second season of F1 Academy with MP Motorsport, and she sits ninth in the standings with 23 points.
Larsen will not be the only F1 Academy driver joining British F4 for this weekend, as both Ella Lloyd (#20) and Emma Felbermayr – who both compete for Rodin Motorsport in F1 Academy – round out the 32-car grid for Silverstone, returning to Rodin and Virtuosi Racing respectively.
Lloyd remains with the Rodin stable, having been part of the team in her Challenge Cup campaign last year as well. The 20-year-old took a best result of fifth at this year’s season opener at Donington Park and currently sits eighth in the F1 Academy standings – tied on points with Larsen.
Felbermayr’s sole British F4 appearance came at last year’s Zandvoort round, where she took a best finish of 15th with the Norfolk-based outfit. The Audi-backed driver currently sits second in the F1 Academy standings, with one win and two further podiums so far in her sophomore campaign.

How to follow: Races will be live-streamed on YouTube on the official F4 CEZ Championship channel. Live timing is available on Race Results.
Weather forecast: Warm all weekend. Mostly cloudy on Saturday and rain likely on Sunday, with potential thunderstorms.
What to know: The F4 CEZ Championship comes back after a six week-long hiatus, staying in Austria as the drivers head to the twisty Salzburgring.
David Walther of Maffi Racing heads to this round as the championship leader and the only driver who came out on top in more than one race at the season opener in Red Bull Ring. He is closely followed in the standings by a four-strong Jenzer Motorsport group led by Elia Weiss, who is five points behind the Dane.
Lubo Ruykov, who replaced Ava Dobson in Cram Motorsport for round one, is not returning for the second round. Instead, it is Payton Westcott (#29), Mercedes junior and F1 Academy driver, who will compete in the third Cram car alongside Simon Rechenmacher and Alexandre Louza. Westcott is currently fourth in F1 Academy with two podiums and 40th in Italian F4, having raced only in the first round.
Another F1 team junior – Jade Jacquet of Williams – is also not back for the second round with Mathilda Racing. Her spot will be taken by Dean Pedersen (#9). The American driver tested extensively across Europe with Soren Motorsports over the winter as well as with Mathilda Racing in the official F4 CEZ test session at Salzburgring in April. This weekend will mark the 16-year-old’s single-seater debut.
The sole Harp Racing car, which was piloted by Filippo Fiorentino in Spielberg, will run under the Drivex team, with its driver being Sebastián Frigolet (#35). The 15-year-old Mexican sits in 24th after the first round of Spanish F4, competing for DX Racing Team, Drivex’s sister team.
In Maffi Racing, meanwhile, Cezary Bień (#211) will make his racing debut in F4 CEZ having now turned 15. He competed in testing sessions and free practice at the Red Bull Ring, when he was too young to race.
Two Czech teams will have one fewer car in Salzburgring, as Albert Písařík of Janík Motorsport and Roman Roubíček of JMT Engineering will not appear in this weekend’s round. Písařík is instead participating in a showjumping competition in the Netherlands.

What to know: The AU4 championship heads into its second round of 2026, racing at Sydney Motorsport Park this weekend. It is still anyone’s game in both categories – just four points separate Jensen Marold and Marco Manson in Gen2, and five separate Jackson Culver and Koby Wilson in Gen1.
A chaotic opening round featuring mixed conditions and a host of debutants has set up what looks to be an unpredictable, highly competitive season. Marold took the first two wins of the season before a collision with Borys Łyżeń in race three took him out of podium contention and handed the race win to Manson. Gen1’s Wilson won race one and Culver took the victory in races two and three.
Łyżeń, as planned, will not return for this weekend’s round after achieving a podium and a fifth-place finish in his single-round showing.
Jamie-Lee Su, who drove for AGI in 2025, returns to AU4 this weekend, stepping up to Gen2 with new team Waltec Motorsport. Su finished ninth in the Gen1 championship with a best result of third.
Sixteen-year-old Queenslander James Raaymakers of Ambition GP will undertake his first round in the Gen2 championship, while karting graduate Rixon Salvino will make his Gen1 debut with AGI Sport this weekend.
