F2’s Jack Aitken and Guanyu Zhou get Renault F1 roles

Formula 2 drivers Jack Aitken and Guanyu Zhou will join the Renault F1 team as test and development driver respectively, as Renault complete their driver line-up.

Guanyu Zhou, who will participate in his inaugural Formula 2 season with UNI Virtuosi Racing, will take on the role of development driver at Renault F1. The Chinese driver was a Ferrari Junior until this year. The 19-year old has three seasons of European Formula 3 under his belt, 2018 being his best year with two wins and six podiums. He finished in 8th that season.

Aitken

Jack Aitken is somewhat of a veteran in formula racing, driver formula cars since 2013. The 25-year old won the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 championship in 2015, progressing to GP3 where he finished 5th and 2nd in 2016 and 2017. In two years he won three races and took 13 podiums. In 2016 he joined Renault’s young driver program and in 2018 he became their official third and reserve driver. Last year he also drove F2 with ART and won a race, finishing on the podium twice and taking 11th in the final standings. Aitken is now Renault’s official test driver.

Completing the Renault driver line-up is Sergei Sirotkin who returns to the team after a year of Formula 1 with Williams. The Russian will be Renault’s official third and reserve driver this season.
