To say Monaco wasn’t Christian Lundgaard’s weekend, would be quite an understatement. The Danish driver retired twice, went home empty handed and now finds himself way down the order looking at an uphill championship battle.

After a very good debut year, expectations were high this season for Christian Lundgaard. He stayed with ART GP for a second year in a row. Last year he won twice, but in the first six races of 2021 he finished on the podium just once and took home points only in the first two races of the season.

Why Monaco was such a disaster for the 19-year-old? “I honestly do not know what to say. Monaco is always special and it is a special track to drive on, but this round is just for the sake of forgetting”, he says. “There was just nothing that went my way this weekend. I just think I should go home and sleep the disappointment out and then there is full focus on returning stronger at the next round in Baku.”

His team mate Theo Pourchaire meanwhile became the youngest ever Formula 2 winner at 17 years of age as he climbed to third in the standings. Everything the French driver touches seems to turn to gold and in his first full year in F2 he can’t be ruled out for the title. Lundgaard will have to make his experience count to the fullest in this intra team battle.
