Mercedes junior driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli takes impressive pole in F4 UAE exhibition round

In the exhibition of the newest generation of F4 cars, Mercedes junior Andrea Kimi Antonelli dominated the opening sessions of the F4 UAE season, topping both practice and qualifying timing boards.

Antonelli was signed to the Mercedes team at just 12-years-old and had a very successful karting career which led to an Italian F4 seat this year where he claimed three podiums. His form has continued into the new cars, setting a time nine tenths quicker than anyone else.

In second was fellow Prema driver Charlie Wurz. Son of two time Le Mans 24hr winner Alex, Charlie had his best lap time deleted but still managed to put his car on the front row and will hope to challenge Antonelli in tomorrow’s race.

Conrad Laursen rounded out the top three for Prema. Winner of the 2020 Danish F4 championship, Conrad just missed out on the front row. With the Dane being only 0.017s behind Wurz.

Spanish F4 champion Dilano Van’t Hoff qualified fourth for MP but being one second off the pace of the leader is something MP would not like to see in preparation for the season ahead.

Van’t Hoff just edged out Hamda Al Qubaisi, who will be hoping to challenge the rest of her Prema teammates in tomorrows race.

Rik Koen in the second MP car qualified in sixth, with Vladislav Ryabov in seventh. Then came the two Xcel cars of Aiden Neate and Jamie Day in eighth and ninth respectively. With Miron Pingasov rounding out the grid in tenth.
