Formula Regional Europe: Who’s going where in 2027?

Last month, the first FIA-supported season of the Formula Regional European Championship ended. One month later, the series has completed three post-season tests, and line-ups for next year have started to take shape. Feeder Series has collected all the info circulating around the paddock to tell you who’s likely headed where in FREC in 2027.

By Archie Harper

The 2027 season will be the ninth of FR Europe and the second with full FIA support after what will undoubtedly be seen as a successful inaugural season under the FIA FREC branding.

With eight drivers stepping up to F3 from the 2025 grid and around as many expected to do so next year, many drivers on the ladder are now looking even more closely at the series for their next step.

The organisation of post-season tests this year – which did not happen last year – has helped paint a clearer picture of which drivers will be making that step for 2027.

Feeder Series has learned that all 10 teams from 2026 will remain for 2027 and that two new teams will join the grid.

The first is the already self-announced LN4 Fusion, while the second is set to be F2’s Invicta Racing. Feeder Series has also learned some names expected to join each squad in their first seasons.

R-ace GP

The French squad who swept the 2026 titles, taking their first drivers’ championship with Emanuele Olivieri, will have some familiar faces in their lineup next year.

Already announced to be joining the French outfit for 2027 is Williams junior Oleksandr Bondarev, who signs for his first full season in the series. He contested the final two rounds of 2026 with Van Amersfoort, taking his maiden victory at Imola.

Toyota-backed Yuki Sano is expected to remain with the team for 2027. It had been rumoured that the Japanese driver would step up to F3 with Hitech in place of fellow Toyota driver Jin Nakamura, but each driver seems likely to do another year in their series. Sano’s rumoured replacement – Kiyoshi Umegaki, Super Formula Lights’ third-place finisher – is understood to be going to Eurocup-3 next year.

A driver familiar with R-ace GP is Kenzo Craigie, and the 16-year-old Briton is anticipated to complete the lineup for 2027. He has taken two wins in Italian F4, in which he sits sixth, and won the E4 championship last weekend after taking four wins to Luka Sammalisto’s three across the three rounds.

Other than Sano, the team’s 2026 drivers are set to move up to F3. The series champion, Emanuele Olivieri, is expected to sign for ART Grand Prix after taking nine podiums including two wins on his way to the title. Mercedes junior Rashid Al Dhaheri, who ended up fourth with three victories, is expected to sign for Van Amersfoort Racing in 2027.

MP Motorsport

Unlike the teams’ champions, MP Motorsport will see an all-new lineup in 2027.

British F4 champion and McLaren junior Dries Van Langendonck is expected to join the Dutch outfit for his maiden FRegional season. The 16-year-old is also the Formula Winter Series champion and has taken 17 wins across 2026 and a total of 24 podiums.

The first of the Dutch talents racing for MP in 2027 is anticipated to be Kasper Schormans. The 17-year-old, who won the Richard Mille Young Talent Academy shootout last year, is leading the Spanish F4 championship in his paid-for seat with MP Motorsport having taken a total of 11 podiums, including three of his four wins last time out at Navarra.

Another driver with a history at the team is Red Bull junior Rocco Coronel. The 15-year-old Dutch driver is expected to race with MP in 2027 after competing in Spanish F4 with the squad. He sits third behind his compatriot, taking three wins across the season as well as two further podiums.

All of the team’s 2026 drivers will step up to F3 next year. Runner-up Sebastian Wheldon has signed for Trident in 2027. Alexander Abkhazava is expected to join DAMS, while Aston Martin junior Chi Zhenrui is anticipated to remain with the Dutch squad as he moves up to F3.

Prema Racing

The Italian outfit finished outside the top two for the first time since 2021 and will completely reshape their lineup for next year.

Prema are expected to bring 2026 Italian F4 frontrunner Alp Aksoy to FREC in 2027. The Turkish 16-year-old has taken eight podiums including two wins to find himself sitting second with one round to go in 2026.

Joining him is believed to be fellow Italian F4 graduate Oleksandr Savinkov. The Italian-licensed driver sits eighth in Italian F4, taking three podiums through the season.

The third seat at Prema is less certain but thought to be occupied by Roman Kamyab. The Briton had been rumoured to join the squad and tested for them over the summer but was not present at any of the post-season tests. Kamyab is currently 26th in Italian F4 with Prema, with a best result of fifth at Vallelunga. He secured a second-place finish in E4 at Vallelunga to finish 14th in the standings.

It is also possible that Tomass Štolcermanis, who finished 17th in FR Europe this season, could remain at the team for a second year after testing with them at Paul Ricard.

Two of the team’s drivers from this year are stepping up to F3. Third-place finisher Kean Nakamura-Berta was the F3 grid’s first announcement at Trident, while Salim Hanna is expected to join Campos after debuting in the series with AIX Racing in 2026.

CL Motorsport

Italian squad CL Motorsport improved their position in the teams’ championship by three with a breakout in their second year in the series, and they will have a familiar face as well as some new ones in 2027.

The driver who took their maiden FR Europe victory, Reno Francot, is expected to stay with the team for a second season. The Dutchman took a further four podiums on top of his win to finish fifth in the drivers’ standings this year.

The only known rookie in the lineup next year is expected to be Alexander Chartier. The 16-year-old has taken 23 points in Italian F4 this year with PHM Racing and currently sits 35th.

CL Motorsport have a history of rotating driver lineups, with six different drivers occupying their third seat in 2026. While the occupant of the seat is likely not decided yet, Tomass Štolcermanis is a driver who tested with the team at Spielberg and could fit in at the squad with his experienced hands.

CL’s second permanent driver this season, Jules Roussel, is exploring avenues in FR Europe, but nothing yet appears concrete for the Frenchman.

Rodin Motorsport

The New Zealand–licensed, British-based outfit who finished fifth in the teams’ standings in their debut season will see some continuity in their 2027 lineup.

Longtime Rodin driver Alex Ninovic is believed to be spending another year with the team in FR Europe, with no seats now understood to be available at the squad’s F3 team in 2027. The Australian finished 10th with one podium this year.

He is expected to be joined by F1 Academy championship leader Alisha Palmowski. The Red Bull–backed Briton, who was the 2024 GB4 runner-up, has taken four wins across her second F1 Academy season.

In the third seat, Jensen Burnett may be stepping up to FR Europe next year, a rumour compounded by his testing appearance at Spielberg with Rodin. The 16-year-old Canadian is 15th in Spanish F4 with MP and 31st in Italian F4 after contesting the two most recent rounds of the latter.

With Ninovic staying, Reza Seewooruthun has also been announced to be staying at Rodin, albeit in F3 next season. Gabriel Gomez’s future is less certain as budget shortfalls continue to limit his options.

Van Amersfoort Racing

The Dutch outfit experienced a difficult season in 2026, with Bondarev’s late-season debut helping them salvage some points at the last. The team will have an all-new lineup next year with hope of replicating that success.

Their first driver expected to be racing for VAR is Red Bull junior Scott Kin Lindblom. The 16-year-old Swede finished seventh in British F4, in which he took seven podiums including one win.

Van Amersfoort will keep a known quantity from their Italian F4 operation in 2027 as Pedro Lima is anticipated to step up to FR Europe. The Brazilian has claimed 31 points this year and finds himself 32nd in the drivers’ standings. He finished 43rd in E4 with no points but had a far better winter, finishing 10th in FWS.

Something of a wildcard in the lineup is F4 NACAM’s Fernando Rivera. The Mexican sits fourth in the standings in his home F4 series and eighth in F4 US and is expected to race with the Dutch team after exploring moves to multiple FRegional-level series in Europe.

Dion Gowda is expected to depart the series, as is Francisco Macedo, who competed in Eurocup-3 after vacating his seat for the final two rounds. Andrea Dupé is expected to remain in FR Europe for another season.

ART Grand Prix

ART Grand Prix, the team that housed 2021 drivers’ champion Grégoire Saucy, are another outfit refreshing their lineup after a challenging season in which their highest-placed competitor ended the season 13th. The French squad are expected to field one new driver and one returning driver, with two options possible for their third seat.

The familiar face is expected to be Matteo Giaccardi. The Monégasque achieved one points finish with a seventh at Imola, ending the season 27th overall.

He is expected to be joined by the second Belgian on the 2027 grid in Thibaut Ramaekers. The 16-year-old had been second in French F4, but his participation in the post-season test with ART at Paul Ricard ahead of the French F4 race at the same track meant he was classified as a guest driver for the finale. He finished third behind Guillaume Bouzar and Kota Tsuchihashi.

The third ART seat is apparently still Alexandre Munoz’s to take, but budget concerns may be hindering him from getting a deal over the line. Another option could be Edu Robinson, the Spanish-licensed driver also testing in the seat in the post-season.

All three drivers from the team’s 2026 lineup are expected to continue in the series, with Kabir Anurag expected to move elsewhere on the grid.

RPM

The Irish-owned, Italian-based RPM squad dramatically improved their points tally from 2025 and took their first victory in the series at the final round. Their lineup is among the most uncertain for 2027. Though Emily Cotty tested in every post-season test, it is understood she will not be racing in FR Europe next season. She competed in the Le Mans Cup last weekend and tested ELMS machinery with Forestier Racing by VPS on 11 October.

There is some expectation that Jan Przyrowski may well choose to do a second season with the team. The Pole finished 12th overall in the standings, his season culminating in victory in race one at Hockenheim.

Another driver who may join is Bernardo Bernoldi, who tested for the squad at the first post-season test and at a test at Le Castellet earlier this summer. The Brazilian sits 38th on 19 points in Italian F4 this season with Trident.

Andre Rodriguez could also be a candidate, having tested with the team at the first two post-season tests. The American sits 39th in Italian F4, in which he has raced with Cram Motorsport. He has also contested a round each in Spanish F4 and Eurocup-3 with GRS Team.

A possible wildcard option is Marcus Sæter, who is understood to be exploring another season in the championship. The Norwegian, who finished 18th in the standings in 2026 with a best result of sixth, tested with RPM for one day at Spielberg.

With Przyrowski and Costa expected to complete a second season in the series, Giovanni Maschio, who departed before the final round at Hockenheim, will not remain for another series after expanding his prospects to the Le Mans Cup this year.

Trident Motorsport

After enduring their worst overall season in FR Europe in 2026 and finishing ninth in the standings, Trident will be overhauling their lineup in hopes of a rebound in 2027.

Indian driver Ary Bansal is expected to take a seat with the squad in 2027. Bansal sits third overall in Italian F4, and he debuted in FR Europe with CL Motorsport in the final round at Hockenheim.

He may be joined by Ludovico Busso, his teammate at US Racing in Italian F4. Busso is 11th in the standings, claiming one third-place finish in the penultimate round at Misano.

The final driver rounding out the lineup is expected to be Dominik Šimek, likewise an Italian F4 competitor. The Czech driver will step up with Trident, with whom he sits 23rd in the standings.

The squad may have another option in Bernardo Bernoldi, who has tested with them twice this year – at the Hungaroring and Paul Ricard.

All three of the squad’s 2026 drivers will depart the series, with both Maximilian Popov and Kai Daryanani having competed in Eurocup-3 since the FR Europe season ended and Andrija Kostić’s plans unclear thus far.

G4 Racing

Swiss outfit G4 Racing took their highest points total since 2023 despite finishing last of the runners on 44 points. They will see partial changes to their driver lineup next season.

Expected to stay on for 2027 is Rahim Alibhai. The 16-year-old American scored a best result of 14th through his first season in the series.

The only other driver who has appeared in each post-season test with the team is China’s Zhao Zijun. Zhao has contested 12 races of Chinese F4 in 2026, taking a total of six podiums, including three wins. If Zhao does sign for the 2027 season, he will not be eligible to compete in the first round as his 16th birthday falls after the first round at Portimão.

The driver most likely to fill the third seat is Italian-Monégasque driver Oscar Repetto, who tested at Paul Ricard and has been expected to make the step up to the FR level from F4. Repetto sits 22nd in Italian F4 with a best result of fifth, and he finished 36th in E4.

Marcus Sæter is still a possibility to retain his seat, and he is understood to be at least attempting to remain in the series. Saqer Al Maosherji’s plans are less clear.

LN4 Fusion

Though they are one of FREC’s newest teams, LN4 Fusion’s lineup is shaping up to be one defined primarily by experience.

One driver expected to be joining the team is Kabir Anurag. The Alpine junior who finished 21st overall this year is expected to land at LN4 Fusion after having discussions with multiple teams.

Another driver in discussion with multiple teams but who will likely land at LN4 Fusion is Andrea Dupé. The Frenchman’s only points finish this season was a third-place finish at Monza in the reverse-grid race, and he ended the season 26th overall. Dupé was also a karter and F4 driver for Prema, the team formerly owned by LN4 Fusion’s team principal Réné Rosin.

The third driver expected to join the team is Miguel Costa. The Brazilian took points at the first and final rounds of the season with RPM and ended the year 23rd overall.

Invicta Racing

Earlier this year, there was some uncertainty over which of Invicta or their former partners Virtuosi would be joining the FREC grid as one of two new teams in 2027. It has become clearer that the expected team is Invicta, and they are also anticipated to bring some fresh faces to the grid.

Italian F4 champion Luka Sammalisto is expected to make the step up after three years at the F4 level. The Finn was announced for Trident in 2026 before the deal ultimately fell through, though his title glory will have helped advance negotiations for him to make the move.

Another rookie expected to race with Invicta in 2027 is Maverick McKenna. The American finished ninth in the French F4 championship this year, claiming one win at Magny-Cours and a further three podiums.

For the third seat, it is plausible that any of the fourth options and outside chances at other teams may sign, with many drivers exploring options to compete in the series. Marcus Sæter and Jules Roussel are both known to be exploring their options for a second season, and Invicta could be an attractive option with many other seats now unavailable.
