The Norwegian Red Bull Junior Hauger won the FIA F3 championship in style after starting 4th in Race 1 at Sochi and finishing 2nd, only beaten by Logan Sargeant. With two races to go second in the championship Jack Doohan can’t mathematically overtake him anymore.

Red Bull boss Helmut Marko is both proud of Hauger and critical.

“He has had a great 2021 F3 season,” states Dr Marko. “A mistake early on but otherwise he has been exceptional. He has shown great ability, he has the speed within him and he is very much going in the right direction.”

“He will drive for us in Formula 2 in 2022 and there is only one step to make after that. It does require him to continue to improve very much in the same way that he has this season. He is not there yet.”

Race 2 will be on Saturday and Race 3 on Sunday. Jack Doohan’s second place is still under threat from Clement Novalak who finished fourth and took the fastest lap in Race 1, while Doohan failed to score after a disastrous first lap.

It’s unknown which team Hauger joins in Formula 2, but this years Red Bull affiliated drivers in F2 are at Hitech (Juri Vips and Liam Lawson) and Carlin (Jehan Daruvala).
