After taking the reverse grid race victory at Snetterton back in April, Megan Gilkes thought it might have been the only time she was on the podium this season, with her future beyond that weekend looking very unclear. Gilkes spoke to F1 Feeder Series expressing her delight that she was able to complete the full inaugural campaign of the championship.

Eight months after the season began and Gilkes is getting into the car for the final round with two further podiums to her name, including another race victory when the series visited Donington Park for the first time this season.
“I’m thrilled to have been able to do the full GB4 Championship this season, it’s really thanks to my sponsor Quattro who have been sponsoring me since the second round of the Championship. I wasn’t expecting to be racing at all in GB4 this season and they (Quattro) just kept supporting me and that has allowed me to come this far.”
Gilkes believes that part of her successes this season is down to the people she is working with;
“It’s a great team to work with. The driver coach, Matt, is fantastic. I’ve worked with him before when I did a bit of testing and I’ve absolutely loved working with him. The engineer, Neil, he is also great. He quite often puts a great set-up on the car. The mechanics are all really nice guys and are really focused with a lot of attention to detail.”
With Gilkes not originally planning for a full season in the GB4 Championship there was no real pressure placed upon her in the early parts of the season and Gilkes says that it’s something that has benefited her.
“It was really nice to come into a Championship with no expectation. I’ve done barely any testing and the first time I actually drove the car was on the first race weekend. So to come in without any expectations and just have a go in a slicks and wings single-seater was a great experience for me. It worked out really well having no pressure and I was able to go out and get some good results.”
Gilkes is one of only a handful of drivers that completed the entire GB4 Championship and ended the season 6th in the standings after a fifth and ninth place finish along with a retirement at Donington Park.
